Three Varieties of Drinking Chocolate Now Available!

On a cold day, there’s nothing better than to curl up with a hot mug of drinking chocolate. And now, you can do that with three varieties of decadently thick and rich drinking chocolate from Potomac Chocolate.

Duarte, Dominican Republic Single-Origin Drinking ChocolateSingle-origin Duarte, Dominican Republic
The first variety is a single-origin drinking chocolate using cacao from Duarte, DR. It’s thick and rich with a deep traditional dark chocolate flavor and subtle notes of red fruits.
Peppermint Drinking ChocolatePeppermint Drinking Chocolate
The second variety is my Peppermint Drinking Chocolate. Crushed Doscher’s Old-Fashioned Candy canes are added to Duarte, DR chocolate to make this minty, festive holiday drink.
Spiced Drinking ChocolateSpiced Drinking Chocolate
Gently spiced with cinnamon, sea salt, and aleppo chili pepper, this drinking chocolate is thick, rich, and complex with a touch of heat at the end.
You can make these into either a traditional American-style hot chocolate, a thick European-style drinking chocolate, or (my favorite) somewhere in between. For American-style hot chocolate, use 1/4 cup chocolate and 3/4 cup milk. For European-style drinking chocolate reduce the milk to 1/2 cup. And for the in-between, use 2/3 cup of milk. Simply heat the milk in a pot on the stove until it is steaming but not boiling. Then, whisk in the chocolate and continue to heat on low until all the chocolate is completely melted and thoroughly mixed in.

When whisking in the chocolate, the more energetic, the better. The whisking really helps to froth up the drinking chocolate, which produces a luxuriously velvety texture. After whisking, pour into your mug of choice and enjoy. The American-style instructions will make about an 8oz serving–a small mug’s worth. The European instructions will make about an espresso mug’s worth, while the in-between instructions will fill a normal cappuccino-sized mug.

If you’d like a lighter or non-dairy version, simply replace the milk with water. You’ll probably want to reduce the water (or increase the chocolate 🙂 ) a little bit to achieve a similar texture.

All three drinking chocolates are now available in the Shop!
