I’m a chocolate maker, but I also bake sourdough bread. I created my own starter a few years ago (named Martha as all starters should have a name) and have been perfecting my bread ever since. I’ve had a fair bit of interest over the years in my bread, and have decided to make a few loaves available for local pickup.
To start, I’m offering two different breads: a traditional sourdough country loaf and a cinnamon raisin sourdough loaf. Each will be made start-to-finish by me and will be fresh-baked on Saturday.
The country loaf is made from a blend of three flours: bread flour, whole wheat, and rye. It’s everything you’d want from a loaf of sourdough bread: light, open crumb and a crispy crust. This is a great bread for dipping in olive oil, slathering with butter, or making an awesome grilled cheese sandwich. It also makes the best french toast I’ve ever had.
The cinnamon raisin loaf is made with bread and whole wheat flours with (obviously) cinnamon and raisins mixed in. I made this for my family the first time a few weeks ago and it was almost all gone in just a couple hours.
The loaves are pretty large (between 1.25 and 1.5 lbs) and may come as a boule (round dome shape) or a batard (long oval). I can’t guarantee a specific shape, but let me know if you have a preference and I’ll try to make sure you get that shape.
I have limited capacity, so to start, I’ll only be offering 8 loaves total. I will take orders until end-of-day Thursday or the 8 loaves are sold.
The loaves will be available for pickup only on Saturday at my Occoquan, VA shop. Please select ‘Local Pickup’ during checkout. If there is interest, I can look into more pickup days as well as shipping options.
